Transitioning into leadership is tough. How do I know – because I was once that new leader – wanting to feel competent as a new manager, but instead feeling in over my head. I’d spent more than a decade, training, taking classes and preparing for the role of management. And my first year as a new manager was the most exciting, the most demoralizing, and the most confusing time in my career. Although I knew nothing about the concept of a professional coach then, I later recognized how much easier it would have been if there had been someone available to offer advice, or act as a crucial sounding board when needed.
I’ve spent over 25 years in leadership roles, both in the Military and within multiple Federal Government agencies. Through my experiences with both, I developed a desire to help those who find themselves in places they never expected to be, with responsibilities they haven’t the skills to achieve – new leaders, new managers and supervisors.
